Community Wildland Fire Program

The Brian Head Fire of 2017 showed us that Brian Head is at risk for wildfire and there is a lot we can do to lessen the impact of future wildfires. To help in this effort, residents and the Public Safety Department have put together a Community Wildfire Preparedness Plan. This plan identifies wildfire risks, mitigation tactics, community stakeholders, and present as well as future solutions to reduce the risks of wildfire in Brian Head. The Public Safety Department is in partnership with the Utah State Division of Forestry, Dixie National Forest, and Cedar Breaks National Monument in efforts to reduce fire risk in public lands surrounding Brian Head. All property owners in the Brian Head area can also help reduce the risks of significant property loss in the event of a wildfire by conducting a wildfire risk assessment of your property. Any cost and/or time spent reducing wildfire fuels on your property can be logged to use for grants from state and federal agencies. The Brian Head Fire Department will conduct a free wildfire assessment of your property and give you suggestions on reducing fire risks. If all landowners help in creating defensible space on their properties, we can make sure that Brian Head is a Fire Wise Community.
